Our Evolutionary Impact on Species

Many scientists are now terming this period in the history of the earth the Anthropocene. This period defines how we, as a species, are impacting the entire globe and changing the planet. For example, human impacts have accelerated the rate of species extinction vs. a cataclysmic event such as a giant meteor hitting the earth or volcanic eruption causing such a change in species numbers.

This article shows that many species are showing evolutionary adaptations due to our influences on their environment.

Challenge each other to a contest to see who can make the most change! Use the carbon footprint calculator to see what your current carbon consumption is and what changes you can make to ease the load. Each one of us CAN make a difference if we work at it.

Telling signs of climate change are evedient everywhere. The arctic is one of the places where it is most obvious. What can you do? Change just a few things around you;

  1. Buy energy efficient products.

  2. Conserve energy at home and at work.

  3. Plant trees.

  4. Reduce, reuse and recycle.

  5. Make wise transportation choices (Like riding a bicycle instead of driving in a car)
